Thread: Dan dare pilot of the future

  1. #1

Default Dan dare pilot of the future

following on from my post a couple of days ago about Charley's war I though i would post my next one on here too.
Below is a full Dan Dare Episode taken from the Eagle dated 9th July 1983

Above is the front cover of The Eagle from 9th July 1983.This is one of the early issues of the 1980's re-launch of the famous 1960's comic. This cover story is of Dan Dare Pilot of the Future. The New Launch brought back Dan Dare glossing over the stories that had appeared in the 2000AD of the late 1970's this Dare was not a genetically frozen original but the great great great Grandson of the 1960's original.

I love the art in these early 1980's Dan Dare stories the colour's and amazing space ships just drew me in all day long when is was a kid.

if you would like to view the blog then here is the link.

Are you absolutely certain you are not breaching copyright by republishing these images?

No not certain at all but if it is a breach of copyright there are a lot of people doing the same in many different blogs perhaps some lawyer could make a packet if it is.

Don't you think that after making a point about copyright in your other thread that you should check into this?

It doesn't matter whether you are trying to make money out of it or not. If you do not own the right to publish the image/s the owner of those rights could decide to take legal action against you - and possibly also against eBid for hosting your illegal activities.

You really should go and do some research about UK copyright law and make sure that you don't cause yourself any legal problems.

to be honest not sure if i am going to do this if an artist want's to sue me out of the millions of other bloggers that would just be my bad luck.
This is making me wonder now are people listing/selling on this site and others comics, books, art (that they have not made) postcard's and photo's not breaking copyright when they use there pictures to sell the item.? If this is the case millions of people could be in trouble.
also going back to the images above the artist's in the comics of this time gave up most of the rites to the images when they were published in the comic thats why there was a major movement in the UK and the States by artist to start independent comic book publishing house's like Image and Dark Horse etc so think the only people that would chase for the above image would be the publishing house which i think for the Eagle comics is now defunked?

Not if they use their own photo of the item itself.
Possibly if they use only the artwork created by someone else.

If you scan someone else's work - like the pages you have on your blog - you are more than likely breaching copyright.

If you put the comic on the table and take your own picture showing the comic, then you are creating a new image that you hold the copyright to. Although the new image also contains someone else's work, you are permitted to use it for the purpose of advertising the item for sale.

It's the difference between selling the item itself and selling the artwork the item contains.

It's easier to use a different item as the subject of discussion.
Imagine that we are selling a book. We are fine to photograph the outside of the book and use that image in our listing. We are not fine to scan the pages inside the book and use only those images as then we are taking somebody else's content without permission.

Again, though, you should go and do your own research on this subject if you genuinely care about copyright and staying within the law. It is a complex field that is struggling to keep up with modern technology. To make matters worse the laws are different depending on which country you are in. The Americans have a concept known as "fair use" where they get to use more of a copyrighted work than we do in the UK, but only under certain circumstances. However, their laws should not be confused with ours unless you wish to risk legal action.
