i attend a mental health group every week. It is a group of former patients of a now closed down mental health hospital. Most of us were day patients but a few were long term. We meet for coffee and chat and group support in the local community centre. We are not a registered charity as none of us is able to cope with all the beurocracy (sp) involved. A CPN also attends each week
My question is would i be able to list items in the YDC to raise money for the group as it is not a registered charity.
At the moment we do no fund raising and try to get by on attendees donations each week.
Can anyone give me any advice please

I think you would have to check with Vonz and eBid on that one. I would think it might be a bit risky for you Penni because if anybody were to question what has been done with the money then how would it be proved where it has gone if it hasn't gone through charity accounts ? Check with eBid maybe they know a way around this.

As you know Penni YDC stands for Your Donation Counts and I don't remember any rule that the monthly charity auctions are for registered charities only. As long as you could post a certified receipt for the monies raised for the group I don't see why you cannot list items each month.

The was my understanding too.

The chosen fundraiser this month isn't a charity either and I'm going to hand over cash.

Thankfully, their usual funding mostly comes from a charity that is willing to look after any funds they raise separately and the charity who banks the money are known to me and I can check what is going on.

If that's the case then I wouldn't think there would be a problem. I thought it would be better to check though as I didn't want you to have any pitfalls along the way.
