Thread: Charley's War

  1. #1

    Default Charley's War

I have started to write a blog about some comic books I love from the past (and also to advertise ebid)
Bellow is the latest post with scans of an episode of Charley's War.

If any one would like to read the blog in full or perhaps stat to follow or just like to read some classic episodes from some great comics from the past click the link bellow
    http://hushscomicbookworld.blogspot.com/

Continuing the scans form great comics of the past today we have an episode of Charley's War Taken from The Eagle and Wildcat 27/05/1989.The story would have originally been printed in the Battle Picture Weekly in the early 1980's.for those of you not familiar with the story Charley Bourne is a Solider in the British army during the first world war and we follow his adventures from just before the battle of the Somme right up till just after the evacuation of Dunkirk in the second world war.Written by Pat Mills with great black and white art by Joe Colquhoun the story was very detailed and very well researched with Charley being involved in some key events of the first and second world war.The story was more an anti war story concentrating more on the grim day to day life in the trenches then the heroic deeds or glory of battle like many other war stories of the time. The episode below takes place just before the third battle of Ypres in late 1917 and sees Charley and pals team up with the clay kickers tunneling under no mans land in one of the 21 tunnels that would be blown up before the start of the main offensive.Have a read and tell me what you think especially if you are new to Charley's War.

You can find Charley's War in copies of Battle Picture Weekly dated from 1979 till about 1986 then re-printed in the Eagle from 1988 to 1994.
