Thread: New Jewelry Subcategory

  1. #1

    Question New Jewelry Subcategory

I would like to see the subcategory "fashion" jewelry. Right now there is only fine jewelry and costume jewelry. Fashion jewelry is not a valuable as fine jewelry, but better quality than costume jewelry. All of my jewelry is fashion, but I am forced to list it in costume.

According to the dictionary, and my understanding, Costume Jewelry is any jewelry that is not Fine Jewelry - ie: not high quality, gold, silver, or platinum, with or without precious, or sometimes semi-precious stones. Costume jewelry is other types of metal, sometimes plated with silver or gold, and sometimes using semi-precious stones, or beads or glass. From what i see, the jewelry you have listed is costume jewelry,

I think Fashion jewelry must be a newer term for costume jewelry, perhaps done for marketing reasons??? Frankly, most jewlery is worn for reasons of fashion.
    Ta-Ta for now!

A category for Stainless Steel Jewelry would help a lot.
    Example:
Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Rings : (No Stones)
Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Rings : (With Gemstones)

Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Bracelets : (No Stones)

Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Bracelets : (With Gemstones)

Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Necklace & Pendants : (No Stones)

Jewelry & Watches Stainless Steel Jewelry : Necklace & Pendants : (With Gemstones)

    Agree with post #3 100%

And just who's going to decide exactly what should go in a "Fashion" category????

BTW - ALL jewellery & gemstone nomenclature is governed by CIBJO (the International Jewellery Confederation) who have set out the industry standards.

To cut a long story short, their rules state that only jewellery constructed from precious metals can be called "Fine" & all else is "Costume"

The OP could simply distinguish her stock as "Fashion" i.e. a higher perceived class, in the descriptions.

I believe adding another category like "Fashion" would only lead to a world of problems.

    My 2 cents.

Now that is an excellent category, stainless steel jewelry is becoming increasingly popular.

    Also:

Jewelry & Watches > Stainless Steel Jewelry > Ankle chains

Jewelry & Watches > Stainless Steel Jewelry > Nose rings

Jewelry & Watches > Stainless Steel Jewelry > Belly button rings

Jewelry & Watches > Stainless Steel Jewelry > Toe rings

Jewelry & Watches > Stainless Steel Jewelry > Earrings

Stainless Steel Jewelry of High quality containing Gemstones has become Fine Jewelry over the years in the Jewelry industry. Rolex for example uses 904L Stainless Steel for many of its watches and Rolex is not considered fashion jewelry. Many high end jewelry & watch manufacturers use 316L and 904L stainless steel. Many items selling for thousands of dollars. 904L stainless cost 3 to 4 times more than 316L.
Cheap stainless steel jewelry like the dogtags or charms are low grade 100 or 200 stainless steel. Items made with the lower grade would be considered fashion jewelry.

I have seen Diamonds set in iron jewellery, this doesn't make them "Fine" jewellery.

We currently think that there would not be sufficient listings posted in this sub category to warrant its own section and that the existing categories sufficiently cover this sector.
