However, I informed the copyright holder and they had their legal people send a notification, then the dodgy items were off sale quick like a bunny.
Surely the artist would have copyright in this case if not him the the company he is working for would (DC Comics) who own the rights to the characters?

    Quite so, yes.
Of course we don't know how this specific case was dealt with either by Feebay or the person involved. Obviously Feebay respond differently to a polite request than they do to a legal letter.

I was looking on ebay and found a auction titled Framed Action Comic Number 1 1938 Superman

For £13 looked at the description and its down as a 1938 copy of action comics 1 and its listed in the catergory golden age 1938-1955.

so from a glance the title and description point to it being a orignal except the fact that this comic is in the 100s of thousands range and its either the bargain of the century of it isnt a orignal copy but a fake or reprint.

But it seems ebay has little concern about this and are happy for it to be listed as if it was a orignal.

Do you think that eBay is any more able than eBid to manually check the details of each of the thousands of new listings added every day? Or the tens of millions of unsold items that are re-listed each week? And if they did check each and every listing, do you think that they would have staff knowledgeable on every single possible subject so that they could recognise what is correct and what isn't no matter how obscure the item or topic?

Or do Feebay, like eBid, rely on the users to report potentially dodgy listings?

Both sites rely on users to report listings. In my experience, only one site eBid actually responds!

Do you have a the auction number? can you pm it to me so i can have a look maybe I could snag a bargain
It is a sneaky way to get views on an item but damian write it is down to buyers to report these things funny though that it is not to widely advertised of how to do this and last time I looked even the text size and font was smaller and not that obvious of what it did.

oh i dont know starting to wonder if it is real thats my pension taken care of lol

i know they cant check all the auctions but you would think they would look at actions when the item is on the top ten list of rarest and most expenses comic list. I once many years ago listed a item which was ten mixed comics and ebay removed it as the description was vague and didnt describe the item you was selling, even kno i said it was ten comics picked at random from a large seletion of marvel and DC comics.

How are people who are not into "graphic novels" or comics supposed to know whether one is or isn't on any particular "top ten" list? From what I have seen of discussions around comics, you die hard fans can't even agree on many of the issues regarding value, rarity, quality and so on, so how is anyone else supposed to know?

    That's True Damian
But the comic in question this time the original is 74 years old and is one of the most famous comics ever so would be pretty well known to even someone with a slight passing knowledge of comic books.

The comic has been re-printed over the years and there are many different covers and prices check link

If you were not into comics or even if you were buying for a friend/family member you should know one of the most famous comics in the world.
The thing that would make me think twice comic would be the way it was listed if it was a original copy then it would be plastered all over the site it would be one of there premium listings rather then a average listing.

Damian the top ten list of comics which cclark is referring to is pretty much set in stone set mainly on the value of the comics in it. it won't change much in mine or you life time and it will always have the same top ten comics in it.
