Yes, seeing an item listed at a reduced price would catch my eye too and am sure would result in more sales. Even something per store would be an improvement - I have reductions in one of my stores for this week and it looks decidedly odd as the buy now price is less than the starting bid, but nothing to explain why until a listing is clicked on.
And we all love a bargain!
Yes, it's an old thread ... but that doesn't mean it's not a great idea!
Yep, a great idea from a creative seller, who is no longer active on eBid.
Always held off on this as it would need some predefined limits otherwise just about every listing could be discounted and make the process worthless.
We could add time restrictions on a listing being to be discounted, eg. but if a listing is on auto-repost then how would we calculate it?
If we can work out a process we are, as always, willing to listen to our sellers.

Gazza,
Thank you so much for responding. At first read, your comments were a bit confusing to me. Then I went back and took another look at the listing page.
Back in the day, under the BuyNow & Make an Offer section there used to be an option to offer a discount for a set period of time. Since the discount was not displayed without clicking on the listing, I never used it. And it seems I didn't notice this feature was removed during the redesign or one of the updates.
So, now I guess I now have two requests or suggestions:
1. Restore the limited time discount feature
2. Have the discount displayed without opening a listing.
This would eliminate the auto-listing issue.
thanks so much for your consideration.
