Thread: Better communication of discount offered

  1. #1

Default Better communication of discount offered

I'm a bit disappointed in the way that discounts are displayed in the listings. In fact, buyers aren't made aware that an item has been discounted for a limited time. The listing just shows the new price.

I was expecting that it would be displayed in such a way as to entice buyers to take a closer look, you know, like a "sale" or "discount" sign/tag in the real world. In my Current Auctions view, the listings are displayed in this way, but of course the buyer's can't see this.

It's like having a sale without advertising it until people get inside the store.

I had to sacrifice my paid Subheading section to inform buyers that the price was discounted. I wouldn't mind paying for the "discount" feature if it would function better as a means to drive traffic INTO the listing. This is a win-win scenario as it would be another potential fee income source for ebid, and if properly displayed in the listing, it would help to drive more sales (equals more income for ebid, and sellers). PLUS, we're in the Holiday season so a lot of people might be interested in temporarily discounting their items to boost sales.

    Any thoughts?

Yeah, but that's AFTER you click on the listing in the search results. I'm suggesting that what you see on the item's page should be seen in the search results. That's where it would actually work to entice potential buyers to visit the item's page.

I could, but it then effects my carefully chosen titles. If ebid could add to the search result listings what they add to the item's auction page, the title wouldn't have to be altered and I wouldn't have to resort to changing my paid Subhead area to indicate the item is currently discounted. It really should be something that the system handles automatically, IMO.

Here's a mockup of how a discounted item could look in the search results:

Another nice feature for Discounts could be that a Seller could have the option to have an item auto-discount for special, common holidays/events. The Seller could multi-select the events from a list, then set a discount amount and duration of discount period that would apply to all selected calendar events. Hands-off discounting throughout the year for recurring items!

I decided to manually handle the discounts this way:

    Hopefully, it will help.
