My questions isn't exactly about promotion, but about tracking any promotional efforts made.

Is it possible (and allowed) for an auction to include the google analytics code snippet? This would allow the seller to see how a visitor arrived at the listing. This would help identify which marketing efforts are worthwhile.

Yes. I use it on my blogs but haven't added the code to any eBid pages. There are specific instructions as to where to add the code once you've joined.

The amount of data you can see and analyze is quite amazing! You can even see what keywords a visitor used on Google that lead them to your page. Tons of data.
