Default Break In At The Harbour Cancer Support Centre in Gosport

The Harbour Cancer Support Centre in Gosport is one of the local charities I regularly support

    Local News Story HERE

"Police have arrested three teenagers over the incident. A 13-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys are being questioned on suspicion of criminal damage and theft."

If you want to donate to the centre, call (023) 9250 1503.

    Website for charity is HERE

I usually raise money for another charity in the YDC but am about to switch my YDC fundraising charity for this month to raise funds for these people

Wow, that's sad indeed, makes you wonder what sort of parents allow their kids to do such things. Good for you for raising funds to help with a worthy cause.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Well 'IF' convicted I reckon they should be dressed in canary yellow overalls and forced to sweep the high street at high noon for ten Saturdays.

Rotten eggs and fruit should be provided for folks to 'throw' onto the street (ahem) for the yobs to clean up!

The centre is at the end of our high street so I would love them to be seen outside the centre.

I might suggest this to our local plod

Sad news about the break in however the charity itself only shows less then 1% to the cause. I'll take a pass, sorry.

What the accounts don't show is what is meant by admin...that could be all of the stationery. leaflets, posters etc that are used to promote the centre.

Also the accounts don't show all the voluntary work done to support families.

So that £64159 for admin gets people to use the centre where they get on-going support there and at home.

I tend to judge a charity on action not on figures.

Could you give some more info on where you found that % and how its calculated, it seems very strange to me, given the type of charity it is.

As for the kids that did this, BOTH the kids and the parents should be made to do some very visable community service.

    The accounts are HERE

It looks to me that they need someone to actively apply for grants as the grants for 2008 more than covered the admin costs whereas they received no grants at all according to the 2011 accounts.

They are currently looking for a fundraiser.

A copy. Figures can be moved around and made to look however they would like. If it takes more then 99% of capital to run a charity organization they are doing something wrong or are just hiding income. Our politicians and big business here do it all the time. First thing I look at before giving to ANY charity is how much goes to the cause. When I see the CEOs driving around in Cadillacs or Mercedes well they won't be getting my money. Sorry can't get a good image but you can find it through the links.

Numbers look fine to me for that type of work, and the actual "charity work" they carry out could not be considered to be only 1%. Its just a type of charity that gives out lots of face to face support :-)
