An easy way to get massive Free Publicity !

Hi guys
As you may know I am here in New Zealand.

We have an auction site called Trademe - it is the leader in NZ.

In our Christchurch earthquake two years ago, a 10 storey office block was badly damaged.
A demolition company is going to blow it up. (that's rare here in NZ)
They are running an auction for the right to push the button ! (on a laptop dur)
The proceeds will go to charity.
It is to run for two weeks.
On the first day it got up to $6,000 and its now up to $20,000 and still one week to go.

But the main point is that its on the radio news every day.
And they are saying that its the 8th most watched ever auction on Trademe

So if ebid could find something similar to auction for charity, there could be massive publicity.

All it would take is a bit of imagination and a few phone calls.

I went on the site, and saw some pretty healthy bidding going down. I didn't see that auction. I did see an auction for 10 outdated hostess twinkees going for $25.........:

but Trademe is already the biggest auction site in NZ (even if it is appallingly parochial - I sold happily there until they decided to remove all foreigners just for being foreign AND they have some of my money which they will neither refund nor give to charity.. moan, moan).

And I don't think you realise how small NZ! (a little over 4m to our 62m and the US 311m)

We could lose your population in London (probably already have as it is the Olympics!)

Population in NZ goes up to about 11 million, but only if you count the sheep as well!

My Dad was born in the UK and yes I know exactly how small NZ is.

And yes Trademe are very parochial.

They are not doing it for the publciicty as they are already a household name - the same as ebay is in the USA.

But all I was suggesting is that a charity auction such as that gets a lot of free publicity and it would not cost ebid anything to do.

(But lets see how many medals we get at the Olympics pro rata )

My Dad was born in the UK and yes I know exactly how small NZ is.

There would be huge competition, mostly with the market leader (stop mentioning it by name, please, Julie!), for an auction such as the one you describe.

Again, I don't think you appreciate how much bigger the UK is (my grandfather sailed round NZ for 3 years but I can't claim to know owt except that it is empty with a load of sheep!)
