Maybe a limit on when you can use run until sold. For instance you can't use it until you have 25 positive feedback with no negatives for for failure to send items or cancelled orders without a just cause.

There is nothing wrong with RUS listings.

However there is a problem with dump and run sellers who do not 'tend' to their RUS listings.

If the guy ain't in the store he can't sell to anyone!

Most people expect a response within three working days.

Therefor a seller should look at his listings within that time frame.

    Failure to do so should initiate an automatic response;

For instance; an email warning followed by further warnings over a period to be decided.

Listings should then be withdrawn into a 'sin bin'

If this happens more than three times then get rid of the none preforming seller.

Didn't Gazza come up with a new rule about this a year ago ?

Anyone remember what it was, or where it is ?

    There's this: http://www.ebid.net/forums/showthrea...=1#post1233150

I don't know if that is what you are referring to.

Last I saw in print was, I think, the 365 days in the Help files. That has vanished, and an indeterminate time has taken its place.

I have signed in 'forever' because my password is literally a bunch of random characters and it's tedious to type. I signed in last week, so in six months, my last log in time will be 'six months ago', but I could be active daily. That activity might not be immediately visible to others, but the server knows whether or not someone is accessing their listings. Also, the server could easily display the last access time on one's About Me page ("this seller accessed their stuff 3 days ago"), so even if a seller hasn't got any stores, it would be easy to see if the're around.
Good to hear a technical point of view !

(shows how much we all know!)

I think maximum logon should be 3 months.

It has nothing to do with convenience (Good memourable safe passwords can be made quite easily).

Allowing users to logon forever is effectively endorsing bad practice with passwords.

Its recommended passwords need to be changed at least every 3 months, personally I change mine every 2 months or so.

In my opinion login forever is just as bad as run til sold.

True but from a personal security perspective it is really not a good idea to keep using the same password for anywhere near that time

Incorrect, when you change your password on ebid, it logs you out automatically.

There is absolutely no excuse for the absentee sellers. Even if they list items and don't log in at all, they get emails when they get a question, a bid, a sale, a payment. Don't these on-line sellers ever check their email?

It seems to me that the point in having sellers log in is an attempt to reassure buyers that the seller is here, honest, and actively selling.

Communication is so important in on-line selling. As a seller, I try to keep the buyer informed so that they know what's going on here at my end. I appreciate it when buyers communicate with me as well. I also buy a lot on line and I appreciate a seller who communicates well. Communication. It only takes a minute. It means a lot.
