    Its a pin cushion unless it's about 15" or so in diameter then it could be a footstool that needs a cover.

    I think it is the base of a footstool, blank for embroidery and rather nice.

    Agree - depending on diameter - it's a pincushion or a footstool to cover with your own embroidery/tapestry/needlepoint.

    I'm just curious as to why he only wanted the opinion of women. Whatever that thing is there have got to be men here who know more about it (or can make a better guess) than me, since my input is a big fat zero.
