this reminds me an incident last summer. We hosted the wedding reception for friends in the garden. Next day we had a number of helpers to clear up and I dished up some of the dessert leftovers. And while I went in to bring out the tea things a couple of squirrels ventured onto the table. I got back just in time

When he lived in Greenwich my brother often visited the local park which was full of squirrels. One day he sat on a bench and put his bag of shopping down on the floor. As he picked it up to leave a squirrel jumped out, disturbed before it could eat anything.
