Thread: Cocktails!!! and Music

    Good morning all,

glad to see people carrying on the weather theme with the tunes. We are certainly getting a real mixed bag of weather here in Mansfield. Yesterday we started with sunshine that soon turned to rain and then quite heavy snow. This morning all signs of snow have gone and we once again have brilliant sunshine, though it's still very chilly and the wind is picking up again.

Here are a few more "weather" songs

Good Morning from sunny Suffolk, a lovely blue sky but a bit nippy out there.

Well storm Ciara sure has left us with some damage, 5 perspex panels ripped out of the greenhouse, 2 panels ripped from the roof and side of the little summer house hut that JR made, a whole brand new wooden fence panel blown out, and the plastic covering for the barby has completely disappeared!
The wind has eased for a while, due to come back strong again on Saturday. ROLL ON SPRING & SUMMER!!!!

Thanks for the weather songs books, good selection there!
I'm off to get tea and breakfast, join me anyone?

I finally finished this project, not perfect so I will try again. I trimmed when I shouldn't have.

    a couple more weather songs.
I was supposed to go to the quilting lady's on Thursday, but it snowed a couple of inches and the roads were treacherous, so I think we will try on Thursday the 20th.

Trish I am green with envy and over joyed for Lucia.

About the pot holders - the flowers and leaves are all pieces from my Mom's stash. The lavender piece I actually made a doll dress out of the scraps on my Singer that I had to turn by hand.

Hey Wyo, some great tunes, remember buying the Neil Sedaka single, he had a real streak of hits around this time and even had many of his early tracks reissued on singles. A real song writer who could entertain.

Love Willie Nelson and Alan Jackson.

There are some great versions of Rhythm of the rain, I really like this version by Dan Fogelberg

Trish sorry to hear you've been hit by the storms so much. We haven't done too bad, only real incident was on the Sunday of storm Ciara, I was stood at our kitchen window when I watched our neighbours' sun brolly fly over the wall just missing my greenhouse hit the wall of our pond and took off again and land on our lawn. Went outside to stop it blowing away again, it was completely mangled.

Last on on the weather theme for now, It seems it never rains in Southern California !

    Keep safe everyone

    Hi everyone,
loved the choons - I especially liked Shania and Willie - two great artists. Wow, Willie sure should be proud of that mane of hair at age 70!
I absolutely love Willie, and I agree with you Wyo - Dino could have sung to me (or even just spoke Italian anytime) Loved him and all of his songs.

Wyo, your sewing projects are just amazing - those pansy pot holders are very pretty and exquisitely sewn. Well done!

Books, Dan Fogelberg did a great job with his version of Rhythm of the Rain, enjoyed it.
Glad to hear that you fared well with Storm Ciara, did Storm Dennis cause you any problems?
We had more damage - more panels blown out of the greenhouse and our little summer house roof - and the fence panel that took JR and a mate from the British Legion Club quite a while to put back in place blew out again. Even the wind direction arrow pointer from our weather station was snapped off in the gales.
East Anglia is very flat, we have no hills or mountains to avert the wind, so we get the full force.
Seems like the winds are here to stay until the weekend at least, so no repairs will be taking place until we know that it is safe to do so.
Those perspex panels are not cheap!

At least we haven't been flooded, my heart goes out to all those poor folk who have lost everything in the floods.

We are off to Nottingham on Friday then onwards and upwards to Stoke on Saturday.
We are visiting Teagan on Friday, and attending my niece's 30th wedding anniversary party on Saturday.
Hope this crazy weather calms down a bit before we travel - ole JR is worried that we will get blown off the road and swept away in the floods!

If you don't know the part of the UK that Trish is talking about....do believe her!! I left Wales for North Essex (Braintree area) in the early 1960s.I did not believe anywhere could be so flat! II used to travel on buses in those days and sit on the top deck to smoke my pipe. However, I could not gaze through the windows as I felt terrified. I realised years later it must have been some kind of agoraphobia. Please imagine a young feller in his early 20s trying to smoke a pipe with his head between his knees!

I then went to work in the Southern part of Suffolk ; Sudbury/Great Cornard/Long Melford/Lavenham areas. This was as flat if not flatter, but by then I had a car and so was looking at the world differently.

Now, master of retirement, I live in South Essex, within sight of the QEII Bridge and a stonesthrow from the M25. It's pretty flat here, too...and boy am I glad!!! I have reached the age where walking can be a little difficult. "Back home" it would be almost impossible now.!!

So, it's swings and roundabouts!! I'll put up with the odd gust of wind to have the relative ease of walking on flat surfaces!

Thanks for reminding me to count my blessings, Trish!!

    HELLOWEE!

I'm back from the travelling up North, we had a super time - it was so lovely to spend precious time with all the family.
In Nottingham, we met up with Teagan, Matt and our grandchildren and ended Friday night with a wonderful meal at a Ghurka restaurant in Stapleford.

Saturday morn/afternoon we spent more time with Teagan and family, culminating in a shopping trip/lunch in Beeston - I bet you know all these places books!

The 30th wedding anniversary party was just amazing - the music was great, so was the food but I really had a fun time in the free photo booth.
Here is a sample of the antics we got up to - there was a box full of stuff to dress up in and then have your photo taken for free.

I chose a chicken mask and then a horse - this is a sample of me and my sis Karen having crazy fun!

We had a horrendous journey back on Sunday, the A14 was blocked at three junctions and JR and I drove around for three different ways to get back onto the A14 East.
We ended up taking a country lane to find an Inn and study our map - Sat Nav was useless due to road works in progress.

We ended up back at home after almost eight hours on the road.
It will be a long time before we travel that route again and we are sure that the A14 has finished it's roadworks, think that will be in December!

Cambs, it was lovely to read your post.
My imagination of this young, dashing, pipe smoking feller in his early 20's fetched up a romantic and vibrant image of yesteryear!
The places that you mention are well known to us, Suffolk (Constable Country) certainly is a beautiful place to live in, winds and all!

    Greetings from a poorly bear!

Looks like you had a great time Trish!

I am just at the recovery end of having Norovirus.

It's not a very pleasant illnes so I hope you all manage to avoid it.

They said 3-4 days and it will go, I am on day 8 and just about to show it the door!

I can't remember ever feeling so Ill before, hot and cold fevers, halucinations etc. lost a stone in weight too!

I had just listed over 900 items too, so had to put a notice up as soon as I could.

    back soon,
    Graham

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.
