Thread: Cocktails!!! and Music

    Default Re: Cocktails!!! and Music

Since I'm feeling chatty, I'll tell the story of when Dad purchased the section w pasture. I asked him if we were gonna get some cows and he said "Answer me this - if you go out in a blizzard and help an old cow give birth to a calf, could you then sell that calf?"

I said (with a little doubt as to it being the right answer) "I don't think so."

Dad "Neither could I, we aren't getting cows."

So, I had to settle for riding horses with my cousins, helping my girlfriends with their calves, etc.

G'day all - good to see a few people back in the lounge!

Not familiar with "Dead or Alive" Books - but 57 is way too young for anybody!
Sad to hear Bobby Vee has passed, he was a huge star back in the day.
You can also add Phil Chess of Chess Records fame, who left us on 19th Oct. at age 95 (not a bad innings) RIP to all.

Shesa - you wouldn't see me chuckin' my bus into that creek crossing - NO WAY - but I've got friends who've done that trip.
It's like the Holy Grail for 4x4 owners to make it up there! But I value my ute too much for that trip - most vehicles are trashed afterwards, & some don't make it home at all.

Wyo - noyice wheels you've got there - I'll bet that gets up & goes! Down here we'd call that a "style side 4x4 ute"

Had a fairly rare (for around here) visitor on the block next door this morning. This is the male "King Parrot" & a very beautiful member of that family for sure.
My pix don't do him justice & in real life he's a vibrant crimson red & emerald green. (google it) The female is a plainer Jane, mostly green & a bit smaller.
BTW - this block has finally sold & a builders sign has gone up, so I'll be getting neighbours in the near future - oh well - it had to happen sometime!

I was tickled with the truck, I didn't think I would get it there were 21 other bids, but they gave up before the reserve was met, and I busted it.

Here's something out of the ordinary for you to watch - got a kick out of it myself.

BOOKS - Sad about Bobby Vee & Pete Burns passed, although I will admit that I had to look Pete up. I do remember his "Round & Round" song but when I was dancing under the disco ball to "That's the Way", it was KC& the Sunshine Band singing it - lol!! That Weird Al song was a hoot - bet Pete Burns would have liked that video - lol!!

WYO - Gorgeous Truck!!!! Thanks for the "Welcome Song" Yes, I can relate to that and your "chatty" stories I too lived in town as his parents still lived on the homeplace. The sign as you got close to town read "Astoria - Next 4 Exits" because there were only 4 streets in the whole town! It was 3 blocks deep and only the main street was paved. I totally understand about selling off the calves. We always had one done up for the freezer and my one rule was to NOT tell me which calf it was!! The "business" usually had about 500 head of cattle but we had a small herd (about 50) of our own and I still miss "my girls". I'd tell some stories but would probably bore every body else, so I'll just leave you with this song. I love my little place in the woods but I do miss the "Western Skies".

OLD - glad to hear you have some common sense with your truck! I did notice in the one video that the back bumper (?) fell off and they had to toss it into the back - DUH!!!

I am SO envious of your "photo op" that is one gorgeous bird!! I get excited when I see the Goldfinches migrating and the Hummers at the feeder - usually just the females because after their "job" is done, the males fly farther north where it's cooler and leave the females to take care of the hatching and feeding - sounds like a man, huh?!?!?!? LOL!!! I had a small flock of roosters that stuck together and sat on a privacy fence until they all died off, one by one. The fence really needed to come down and there was one rooster left so I didn't mind too much that he started perching on the front porch Other groups of roosters would not accept him so he was alone and they would run him off when I tossed corn so he got his own dish of corn on the porch. A pair of cardinals saw it and started feeding there too and they were fun to watch but after the old rooster passed I took the corn off the porch and they don't come up now.

    Wyo's video - ROTFLMBO!!! I guess a cowboy does what a cowboy's gotta do!!!

Been a lazy day here and I'm missing the sunshine! Pulled my shoulder last week moving the plants in and it started acting up yesterday again when I went to work in the garden. Woke up with bad sinus congestion this morning so I decided the old body needed a true "rest" today. Both are doing much better but I missed a whole day of "opportunity"!! Oh, well.....

    Y'all take care!!

    Shes

Hi guys, just been reading back on the posts I've missed.
OMG Old, that pothole vid scared the butt off me - I'm just amazed that anyone could get down there and out again! Ever likely some vehicles are trashed and don't make it home! I loved the pics of the King Parrot- he is just gorgeous.

Wyo, very pleased that little Princess O is on the mend, and you sure have a good looking truck. I loved the cowboy lassoing the thief vid - good for him!

Books, yes, sad to hear about the passing of Pete Burns and Bobby Vee, I remember buying Bobby Vee's records when I was a teenager. I especially liked this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwIAEgP9gKc

Shes - hope that your shoulder is better - oh, I love to read your posts! So entertaining - you work so hard and are so brave with coping with snakes, red wasps and eeeek! A scorpion in your shoe ... arrggghh

Hi all - here's another visitor this morning - my pix & a net shot (as mine R carp)
The Pale Headed Rosella's are back. Yah!

Trish - my lapidary club are going on a trip next year fossicking for rocks "up the cape" ie. Cape York far north Queensland, where that crossing is located.
I am thinking of going with them, but if I do, I'll be avoiding that particular pot hole.

Doh! What a silly day I've had!
Started off wondering why there was no lather from the shampoo - I was using conditioner.
Put my jumper on inside out, half the day had gone by before I realised this.
Lost my glasses again (a curse on having to swap glasses for distance, close up and computer work) - after frantically searching the house I eventually found them outside on the table in the little outdoor shelter. I took them off as I was eating my lunch out there and as I did a puzzle I took them off coz I can't see close up things with my ordinary specs.

When JR got home from work I started to prepare our dinner. He saw me getting the battered cod ready and asked why we were having fish.
I stared at him in disbelief and said " Are you nuts! We always have fish and chips on Friday".
He then told me that it was Thursday and steak pie, jacket spuds and veg were on the menu.
I seem to have lost the plot somewhere - where did Wednesday go?

Old, what a beautiful bird, I would love to have them in my garden.
I did see a beautiful little Blue Tit on the Choisya shrub outside by the kitchen sink window and was delighted, but I'm really, really cross with the darn sparrows that are ransacking and raping all the plumes on my Pampas Grass. They attack in gangs, just vandalising the plumes. At first I thought they were feathering their nests for the winter, but after watching them closely - this is not the case.
They just strip bits off the plumes and then let them drop. Looks like a bird kill around the bottom of the plant, there are so many feathery bits everywhere.
JR reckons they are searching for seeds, I doubt that as there is plenty of fodder around here, especially in all the allotments just behind our house over the lane.
I have had to put clear plastic cups over my primroses because they too are being pecked away by the birds - despite having an owl hanging ornament that moves.
I asked JR to get me a blunderbuss to blast them darn sparrows, pigeons and starlings - obviously request denied. (Sensible bloke!)

I showed JR your vid of the pot-hole and he was aghast - how the hell can anyone be brave enough to tackle that!
Why doesn't someone fill it in - or is it some kind of bravado thing with you menfolk?!
