This thread has been absolutely fascinating. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photographs.
G'day everyone, glad you're enjoying the story so far.
Well Bro & Sil are currently in Ooty (OKA - Udhagamandalam) which is a Hill town at some 2,400 meters & down to 8c overnight, quite a bit cooler to where they've come from of late.
Also, there's no WiFi access, so we'll have to wait for the next lot of pix.
That will be Kochi (Cochin) on the west coast & way south of Ooty - to get there requires a 3 train 16 hour journey, one of which involves a Mountains Railway "Toy Train" which should be interesting.
I have managed to lift (steal) one photo off Bro & Sil's blog just to whet our appetites.
Keep watching for Ooty & Kochi pix shortly & cheers to one & all.
Allen.
Ooty: full name = Udhagamandalam
Hi all, well after difficult nett access, we finally have news Yeah!
After the 5 hour bus ride from Mysore to Ooty our travellers made it to their hotel.
Here's one quote about the trip along the way.
"The bus takes you through a National Park where we saw some deer and elephants. There were various signs displayed about Tigers and the like but I suspect the best way to see one would be to stake yourself to the ground and have someone cover you in honey."
New driver & 36 hairpin bends later, they managed to pry their fingers off the seat in front & make it to their room & safety! (Hence the startled look I suspect in pic 1)
#1 Ooty hotel room at 8.30pm, 8 degrees C & no hot water.
#2 Dinner at Ooty.

#6 Ooty street scene & great produce.
#7 Guess who found an old Royal Enfield (real leather seat)

Next leg: The rail journey from Ooty to Fort Cochin
Wow, the gardens are beautiful.

Rail to Cochin: 16 hours total by 3 different trains.
Another quote:
"Of special interest on this leg was an unscheduled stop to allow a family of three elephants to casually clear the tracks."
