Well down here - we were so poor - it was our Father who taught us swimmin' (in a creek)
Of course the hard part was gettin' out of the hessian bag
People saw us kicking a can down the street
and asked what we were doing…we said “Moving”.
I was one of the lucky one's,
in the winter the chimney's were nice and warm.
We made a hole in the kitchen wall, behind the cooker,
and we used to dip our bread in next door’s gravy!
We were so poor that we had to hang the toilet paper out to dry.
Wearing hand me downs wasn’t so bad ,
if only I would of had some brothers.
