.net is one of the general extensions to provide more urls as the net has grown.

Well here if I'm looking for something I use

.edu for educational institutions, .com for businesses, .gov for government

Guess it's just in how you're used to looking something up. If I were to search for ebid, I would get ebid . net and ebid . com. I would naturally click the link for the .com addy because I would think it is a business.

Had .com been used from the start of eBid it wouldnt be an issue but too late now. What should be done is to make sure any form of advertising or promotional goods should include eBid.net and not just eBid.

When eBid started it was a .UK site and was not in a position to expand for quite some time, so the .com was not an issue. By the time eBid was ready to grow the .com was already being used by someone else and has been ever since. This subject has been discussed many, many times and the result is always the same :- eBid can not afford to buy the .com from the registered owner. So, as you say, it is too late.

Totally agree. It is too late for the .com addy but the .net addy must be added on all promotional ads, etc.
