Thread: A question about damaged Dragonware Porcelain

  1. #1

Default A question about damaged Dragonware Porcelain

A friend gave me the pieces remaining from an old Dragonware tea set. She was going to toss them, then thought I might be able to sell them. Most of the pieces have some damage. The tea pot, for example, is missing the lid and has a piece broken out of the spout. I'm attaching a picture of the creamer, which has the lid and also a crack in the bottom. Three cups with minor surface damage. Some dessert plates and saucers for the cups, a couple of which look OK, again surface wear on the rest.

So, my question is: should I bother listing these? I know nothing about fine china and porcelain, so I don't know if collectors want them in this condition.

I tossed all the damaged postage stamps. I have a feeling I should do the same with these.

    Hi,

The market for Dragonware is just about nil right now. I have some lithopane dragonware and some neat, more unusual pieces and I can't give them away(well, maybe GIVE but that's about it). It was "hot" several years ago but like many collectibles, it has slipped from grace.

I even took them to flea market and the wouldn't sell.

Personally, I'd say if the pieces are damaged or mismatched, go with your gut feeling and donate or discard them. I think some people like dragonware but they just aren't willing to pay much for it.

Just my two cents-and my thoughts may not even be worth that!!!! Maybe someone else has had better luck with it.

I've no idea of the value of dragonware but generally only the most expensive items are worth selling when damaged (I trust you threw out no 1d blacks... ). One of my best sales was a damaged Sevres cup and saucer.
