Would suggest vidahost.com if you're happy to use a UK based web hosting service. You can set up with a range of applications, Wordpress, E-commerce solutions using the provided Softaculous suites. The bandwidth is great and your site stays up

They start from a basic pack which would include all of the above.

I use it for my blog and e-commerce site and also for my accounts.
    Well worth a look!!

    Cheers
    Les

Rather than use these packaging deals you can create you own website and get your ISP to host it.

Setting up a website is easy - getting hits is the hard part.

I learned how to write in HTML. Then you need a shopping cart.

My theatre group uses www.weebly.com as a free hosting website for our website (yes we use thier free option). Originally we were on Angelfire, but got fed up with all the popup adverts and rubbish. Weebly is very userfriendly, including for newbies. HIGHLY reccomended

I write my own stuff. It was worth the effort to learn how to write html through tutorials, and other things. I use Frontpage from Word, or other free html text editors to do the hard work.

I don't use the easy to use websites because they have a mind of their own about formatting, and you don't really have the control over graphics, tables, and white space, that you need.

My domain provider gives google placement help and some free ads, but user forums on getting good google placements is best for me.

Thanks, everybody. I tried Intuit and decided to pass on as they're pushing their own content way too much. The words Customer Service are all over the place and overpower what I'd be advertising & selling, so that's it. I really don't have any experience with websites of my own so am considering weebly for starters. I know some HTML. Frontpage is free? I have Microsoft package on my computer. I'll see about it, hoiwever am using a loaner now as my computer is in repairs until hopefully tomorrow. I had no idea there were free HTML editors. Thanks for the ideas. I appreciate it.

This board is great and very helpful. Unlike those of the giants... you know... that SUCK.

    Hi,
I do have my own site and it's OK, what I have a real problem with is getting the traffic to it. Have had it up and running 2 years now and sales
still only a handful each month.

Why not purchase your own inexpensive web editor, there are many out there, then you need a web hoster. You can get them sometimes locally if you look.
I am using Front Page 2002, it isnt supported by Microsoft any more, however my hoster claims he will keep all the needs for it..
I pay $50.00 a year and have great service.

Now prepare yourself for many evenings and some days off for studying, practicing, etc etc.

I,ve made web sites from free offerings that weren't very good, however they did give me a start...
Lots of research is the tip, oh yes and TIME..
    good luck

One more thing..Front Page 2003 I understand is better than 2002. amazon and ebay have them, also
one may use HTML or WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get)

I use Notepadd++ for my html text editor its free and very good.

Good advice from Bill, stay away from all of the cookie cutter sites.
With your own site you are free to do what you like.

Thanks a million. I'm looking into it. I really want to do my own thing, am sick & tired of following rules especially of those giants whose Support left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing. I came across this terrific site to learn HTML and CSS, htmldog.com, I think that's the name.

I was thinking, once I get set up, to see about advertising in places like Better Homes & Gardens magazine. The fact that I made one sale off of eBid, makes me think that this had to do with the keywords, and chances are, this was the only item of this sort available at the time. It was a Russ Berrie mug, one of those older ones, when they used to make quality items (and most of today's RB stuff is junk IMO).

Thank you very much, guys, you're awesome.
