Setting Up Own Website?

How do you go about it? I am a complete newbie at this, but know for the fact that some of you that are more experienced, have own websites set up. I don't want to invest too much right off the start, but rather start out small & learn the ropes. I know some HTML but then again, it's my understanding that I'll be using an editor so my knowledge per se isn't that important.

I have an idea that it has to be niche-related. With this in mind, I'll have to start from the bookselling. I own a couple of domains.

Has anyone tried Intuit, 1&1, GoDaddy, any others? All replies are welcome & appreciated. Thanx

I have a 'scene' business website with 1 & 1 and that is brilliant BUT i tried the free trial for an e shop and it wasnt at all usefull a bit to restricting and the postage set up was a nightmare so i ended the trial and went with Create.net

You can have a free trial and when you go live its £9.99 per month for the pro seller account. Support is very good, unlimited bandwith and very easy to set up with plenty of good designs to choose from .
You dont have to be a geek to set up and run your own e shop.

Or have i got it all wrong and you just want a non selling website ?

Ooops just seen that you are not in the Uk .. not sure if that will mean you cant use Create.net .

I have a very basic website a www.venerableone.co.uk which is not an ecommerce site but just links to my eBid stores.

If you are interested you will find a link on it to the Web Hosting Company I use.

I have found them very helpful, with great sales and technical support.

I set mine up through webs.com - their packages start from free and the finished article is a very professional polished looking site and it's very easy to get it to do exactly what you want, very versatile. Afraid I can't give you the link to show how my site works but as I no longer trade on here I don't want to be accused of promoting my site

Thanks everyone, I'll try all of them. I just tried to try LOL this one: Intuit (free 30-days trial), and am disappointed. They're pushing their own content, not what I would like to have displayed. They promise my customers delivery of 3-5 days which is ridiculous. If I use Media Mail for shipping books, there's no way in the world they'll arrive is a week time. So I guess this one isn't working, so I'm moving on.

You might try Weebly. That is what I used -- very easy to use. Check out my website at: www.caljackscollectibles.com.

Thanks, I'd appreciate all the help. I am seriously considering Weebly; looks like they are pretty reasonable. $5 a month sounds fantastic.

What are their size requirements for a logo? I'll see to it if I can make my own. Budget, you know.
