Just giving this a little wave as I see it's still a major problem - dump and run sellers are giving our buyers (and ourselves) grief. Love to see this sorted by eBid, and H2S made redundant, but until then...

I've attempted to change the description part on some from
h2s201002
to
h2s201005

and

h2s201003
to
h2s201005

and

h2s201004
to
h2s201005

using bulk edit, all I'm getting is on bulk edit "attempted" - "No change possible"
So looks like I'll have to go through 167 listings and change them individually

Then you've probably got something a little wrong. Give me an example auction ID, please, and I'll take a look for you.

That definitely has h2s201003.jpg (March) in it, so a change from h2s201003 to h2s201005 should work perfectly, as long as you do the bulk edit bit right. Have another go.

It's always tricky with these things, since I can't see what you're really doing so I don't know where you're going wrong - but I'm sure support will set you straight.

I don't understand that at all, it doesn't seem to relate to what you said before. "can't find" isn't the same as "attempted change" at all, and doesn't happen in the same part of the process. If support don't get you sorted out, let me know next week and I'll try to get to the bottom of what you're actually doing.
