    VONZ
A universal method of "opting out" of the competition would be the ideal solution.....but as of this moment, I don't have any flashes of inspiration as to how it could be achieved.

There were two very good ideas mentioned Vonz but I think Gothicina's would probably work best - having a code in the title.

Seems there has always been a means of opting out of the YDC competition, just break one or more rule(s). There has always been sellers who start early & run late; who list with a bin price, etc. Actually if you create a universal opt out signal, someone will want to break "that rule" as well. It is just a part of human nature to enjoy breaking rules. Also, sometimes people just make mistakes. They are trying to be a part of giving to a good cause, not be saddled by alot of rules.

Well, I'm not them, but I'd guess because a) it's fun to be part of b) it works well so it's an effective thing to do c) they can. I want to see MORE people taking part, not fewer - and to be honest I don't care a hoot if people want to be considered for choosing/run next month (that's all the competition is, remember, not a big deal). I think it would be simplest if there were one easy opt out and a few simple rules that everybody stuck to, to the best of their ability (mistakes will always happen). YDC always suffers, and thus the charities suffer, when we try to get heavy-handed about it. It should be open, approachable and all-encompassing.

Disagree. Violently. It's about making money for charities, and people are welcome to do that in the way that works best for them. The competition is only there to add a little frisson, and make choosing the next charity etc simpler. If people just want to make money, take part, but not risk getting lumbered with the work next time - let 'em opt out in the simplest possible way (both for them, and for Vonz).

    should suffice.
Do you mean instead of the YDC number? That's going to break some searches. Or just put 00 at the end of the line, separate from YDC91 etc? Something visible in the title would make Vonz's job even easier, for sure. Maybe NC for non-competition would make more sense?

I really don't see the problem with winning - if you do "win" and don't want to nominate the charity then just nominate someone else to do it - like Kim did.

I do know that charity auctions run with YDC in the title are much more likely to sell. Often I move an item which was for sale into YDC and it sells!

Well, now you know what to do. just put YDC into all your charity auctions.

Anyway I've had my say, so a waste of time keeping on about t.

Think maybe it would just be easier if i take the items to the nearest charity shop. I can then just pop the postage & FVFs I normally pay into their collection box.

I meant the latter, put the code at the end of the title, but still keep the YDC91 etc as well.

Yes NC would work, it just needs something that is unlikely to be used as a abbreviation in general, to avoid misunderstandings.
