I didn't think there was a start price limit..........unless you wanted to be part of the competition in order to name the next charity.
Also, I feel the BIN takes away from the bidding wars fun, unless it is really exhorbitant.

I usually start my items at under 99p as I like to see them increase to what they are worth however I dont take part in the competition as i couldnt manage the admin required. I too feel BIN takes away from the fun.

I have listed the odd item with a BIN price so it get's picked up by google, but higher than I would ever expect to get for the item. Penni, someone might just volunteer their brain for the maths, so you could still take part in the competition bit

If by chance I ever got around to listing one or more of the "eBid collectibles" they would defo go on as a BIN or with a reserve (another possibility).

G' day folks! Many YDC'ers....and for many reasons, like to exempt themselves from the YDC "competition". Whilst this is a very laudable action....the methods of doing so are quite unwieldly. At the moment there are umpteen ways to circumvent the "competition element"....... Starting an auctions too early Finishing too late Start price over 99p Adding extra listing features Pm'ing me Including a buy now price etc. etc. I propose that we thin this list down to 2 or 3 We advertise, tweet etc. that YDC starts on the 24th of each month....so the start date should be set in stone. Likewise, the finish date....auctions must end on the 28th. Quite often, items worth a lot more than £20 or with a start price over 99p are listed.....I believe this should still be left at the sellers' discretion. Using extra listing features should go......lets keep a level playing field. Messaging me.....no problem....my pm box is always open! Adding a buy now price to an auction....this is the most obvious way to exempt yourself from the "competition". Generally I dislike "rules".....but I think it's important that we all stick to the same methods of listing. So, over to you good people. What do you think? How can we streamline the YDC? Yvonne x

Strictly talking about the competition aspect, I think the easiest way to do it would be to have one (3-part) rule pertaining to the competition, and all other rules pertaining to the YDC at large. I suggest that to be considered for the competition, the item has to be listed for .99p (or equivalent) or less, with no BIN. It is an auction, after all, and it has to adhere to the dates to keep it fair. To be in the YDC at large, non-competition, I suggest items start at £1 or equivalent. ALL YDC entries, regardless of competition or not should adhere to: Dates (tho some newbies miss that bit the first time...shouldn't be a problem generally, tho they do miss out on the competition till they get it right!) No features - or extra bells and whistles on the listings - keep the playing field even. For discussion - BIN (Tho I don't agree with it on an auction, some folks like it.....I'd say toss it, since it is an auction, but that's up for debate) PM'ing - didn't know about that one.

I've read this thread a number of times and maybe I'm just being thick but I don't see what the problem is.

If you put YDC in the title then you are in the competition and should abide by all the rules.

If you don't want to be in the competition, or don't want to obey the rules, then simply do not put YDC in the title and do not put the item in the YDC category.
