A search from France for "cup and saucer" throws up 287 auctions but "cup & saucer" throws up 914 auctions. "Needle and thread" finds 3 and "needle & thread" finds 17.

I have no idea why this is .... but thought I'd mention it

    Hi lejoueurdepipeau.....

Yes, I obtained very similar results to you (from here in Australia)...
It does seem rather strange, especially when finding these:

ROYAL STAFFORD cups and saucers x 2 .1943
    HORNSEA SAFFRON CUP AND SAUCER
ROYAL DOULTON SAVOY COFFEE CUPS AND SAUCERS X 2
DENBRO BONE CHINA CUP AND SAUCER
Set of 4 striped espresso cups and saucers

All of the above were found under a search for 'cup
    & saucer'
, yet none of these contain & in their titles.
Which tends to suggest that the search engine will accept
and as a substitute for &
If that's the case, I would have thought that both 'cup & saucer' as well as 'cup and saucer' would have returned similar numbers of listings.
