Thread: Fundraising for baby with Microcephaly

  1. #1

Default Fundraising for baby with Microcephaly

Sadly my baby Grandson has been born severely brain damaged, he has Microcephaly. Although I have had some experience of this many years ago when I worked in a Social Services Day Nursery as a Nursery Nurse, very little is available today about this condition. My Son is trying to get an online support group set up for our area where we live.
My Grandson needs sensory toys and equipment to help his development, as he is now 8 months old but in many ways is still like a new born baby. He does not interact, play, cannot sit by himself, and is unable to focus to even look at his Mother, very sad! But it has been suggested we purchase a bubble tube for him. The cost beginning at £500 is beyond his parents means.
So I have suggested selling my handmade cards and Avon products to help raise necessary funds towards this. Ideally I would love to be able to raise money to help other families who are going through the same sort of problems by donating equipment to help their children. Our children are very precious to us. To me all children are precious, healthy or disabled and after 40+ years of working in child care I thought when I retired I would have the joy of Grandchildren, never dreaming of what has happened to my Grandson.

Is anyone able to offer any advice as to how to generate fundraising by selling online?

Thanks for the bump, Madelaine, I hadn't seen the original post. I would suggest creating a simple web site (plenty of free hosting available), a Facebook page and Twitter account too. Promote, promote, promote.

Oh, and if you want to study an example of this done to superb levels, goggle "Adam's Appeal". Good luck.

Thank you for answering my request. How does the YDC work as I have seen it but not sure how to go about it?

I have only just found this. The YDC would make a good start, I think. You can use one of your stores for your 'charity' items too

So sorry to hear about your grandson, I can sympathize with your pain as my late baby niece was born with congenital heart problems and died shorly after surgery, glad your little one is still with you for you to love and cherish.

Agree with Meebo, you can set up a charity store separate from your other listings. YDC items usually do very well, plus it's good publicity for you and your items and great for charity, so I'd definitely give this a thumbs up.

Cheaver also works closely with a charity trust, you might want to PM her about this.

    Best wishes,
