I think Amazon are over hyping the success of the Kindle.

I think e books will have a place.
But I think printed books will be around for along time.

Years ago they said that birthday cards would go out of existence due to e-cards!
Who sends an ecard these days?

Can you imagine giving someone an Kindle book fro Xmas ?

I think book sales are slow because everyone has books to sell.
And look at all the book sale fairs and the books in the Charity shops etc.

The internet access is restricted to Amazon, I've tried accessing other sites and it always returns to Am.
Unless you have an amazon account and need access, just buy the cheaper model.
This may change, but I've heard nothing positive as yet.

They've reported actual figures, do you think they're lying?

Both true, but has Amazon suggested otherwise?

I get them occasionally from online friends, but I never send them

Certainly! I've bought people itunes items, so why not Kindle?

    I think it's postage that's the problem.

Biggest problem with the kindle is how easy it is to download books for free..

A person could download millions of books from pirate sites that he is never going to get around to read, and that is such a waste, when you are buying a book from a store, you are actually going to read it as you have been out and gone to buy it, and the shop that sells it is happy, and the author is happy, and the reader is also happy!
    .
A thousands ebooks can still not measure up to one good paperback.

Tesco is now selling Kindles in store - and loads have been bought this past 2-3 weeks in the store where I work.

If I deal with the sale i always ask [nicely] why they're buying it - so far the most popular answer has been for holiday/travel reading - particularly long plane journeys. The most popular model has been the one with WiFi access built in.

I'm still in two minds about Kindle, as I, too, like to have books around me. But can see the advantages of not having 2-3 thickk paperbacks in my holiday luggage!

Just a quick update on Kindle, my daughter's one has a screen problem and Amazon are replacing the unit, sight unseen and no quibbles. Excellent service

But with a book, you don't get any "Screen problems" The ink doesn't wake up in a morning and say " nah i'm not working today"

I would love a kindle if I thought I could read all my heavy text books from Open University on it.

I would have to wait until I have stopped studying though as I have no spare cash due to paying student fees...but then I wouldn't need the kindle
