    Thumbs up YDC88 charities

Morning all. As you know I have the privilege of choosing this month's charity, and it will have come as no shock that I nominated the RNLI.

The RNLI is a charity close to my heart, and I'll be thrilled if any of you decide to collect for them this month, and I already know that several of you will - thanks very much for that. I do realise, however, that the Lifeboats is very much a national, rather than international, charity. I hope this doesn't stop my overseas friends from helping this deserving cause... especially those of you who have ever, or will ever, visit our shores, since these are the guys who keep our shores and environs safe to visit!! However, if any of our American eBidders would prefer to put their support to something more domestic, can I suggest Big Brothers Big Sisters, an American charity I've supported here when it was nominated previously, and who seem to me to do good things? Their site is here: http://www.bbbs.org

As I say, I'd love you to support the RNLI and hope you will, but if you feel you can't do that, there's an alternative I hope you'll embrace. Thanks everybody, whoever you support, there are so many good causes and not enough cash!!

Hold the front page! Shock! Horror! "Kimbo support RNLI!"... Sorry, Kim, just couldn't resist.

I will find an item which belonged to my mother-in-law to list for RNLI as she was a keen supporter.

I am planning on listing a cunning eBid army disguise for people wanting to duck out of extra duties or want a snoozle without being recognised

Thank you for considerately offering Big Brothers Big Sisters as an alternate, Kimbo. My choice is to rather exclusively support the (primary) nominated charity each YDC. For one thing, I think it makes bookkeeping easier, and for another I believe support for the chosen charity encourages eBidders to strive to be the next one allowed to choose the charity. I have no hesitation in supporting a charity headquartered outside the United States because any group that improves the lives of people is worthy. Any research-related charity like a cancer society, etc., funds learning that helps the entire world. A charity that distributes aid to people or animals needing it improves life somewhere on our planet and if we can help, we are privileged.

I have found that most foreigners are slightly surprised to find that our lifeboat service is a charity. I was reassured to find that Germany has the same arrangements (though they do have rather less coast!)
