Thread: Where to find basic info on Trading Cards?

  1. #1

Default Where to find basic info on Trading Cards?

Two or three years ago I bough myself couple of boxes of Sci-Fi paperbacks
at a boot fair, the seller added a smaller box & said you might as well have these too.
When I got home I found that box was full of trading cards.

I've had them sitting around ever since as what I know about trading cards would be lost written on a postage stamp!
I was thinking of listing them as they are no use to me, but, don't know if I should list individually, or in sets of the same game trading cards, first I need some idea of where to look for information.

4 unopened, but a bit bent, packs of Phantom Darkness,
3 unopened packs of Star Trek TNG + unopened starter set
unopened starter deck of Doom trooper

Individual cards that look unused include
    Duel Masters
    Harry Potter
    Ultraverse II
    The Prisoner
    Indy Car Racing
    Xena
    Battlestar Galactica
    CSI Series 1
    Captain Scarlett
    The Avengers
    Herculese
    Dr Who Battles in Time

Individual cards, that look used include
    a tin of Yu-Gi-Oh!
    Pokemon
    Magic the Gathering

plus there are some plastic sleeves.

The only thing I would know to do is type the name of the card in the internet and search there or if it is not on eBid, check Ebay

When I list books I usually do a search on somewhere like bookdinder4u to give me a rough idea on pricing & availability.

I was hoping there were some equivalent type sites for trading cards out there, but haven't found one yet.

The prices even for what are described as common ones seem to vary a lot from site to site,
so its either do a one by one search & price individually, which will take a lot of time,
    or,
list all the same type, at the same price each.

I doubt there is anything there that is very rare, although from what I've found so far
The Prisoner & The Avengers ones may be worth a little more, than the others.

    Hi Gothicina ....

I sell one type of trading card only - (Pokemon), so I'm no expert really.
The only reason I chose to try them was because they were:

    1. Relatively cheap to buy - to give me more chances of chalking up some sales.
    2. Because my 15 year old boy is into them - and he's more the 'expert'.

But I use this site to check on pricing for Pokemon Cards ...... http://www.bbtoystore.com/store/poke...rgy-cards.html

They vary quite a lot in price depending on how 'rare' they are.
However it can take quite a lot of time to individually price and catagorize each and every one, so I decided on the pricing based on three 'broad' catagories (each of which have 2 types).

Catagory 1. (Cheapest) "COMMON" - as denoted by a small 'circle' - bottom right of card.
Catagory 2. (Mid Price) "UNCOMMON" - as denoted by a small 'diamond' - bottom right of card.
Catagory 3. (Dearest) "RARE" - as denoted by a small 'Star' - bottom right of card.

For each of the above - you get 'HOLO' (Holographic) and non HOLO versions.

Naturally, the Holo versions are worth more than the non Holo version for any given card.

(Actaully there's both Holo and Reverse Holo) and other differences too - but you could go on and on, (and that's just for Pokemon).

Personally, I'd stick to the 3 main catagories and price accordingly.
But then also price your HOLO's higher than it's equivalent in Non HOLO. (so 6 catagories really).

You can take a look here at my (small) range. If you wish Goth, you're quite welcome to use any of my pictures to save you some time. (They're all 'original' scans by me - so you don't have to worry about using them).

    I Wish you well !!!

Thanks for your replies, & the offer Steve.
I must admit after spending hours searching on the net,
I was seriously considering packing them all away again,
& waiting until I retire to have time to list them.

My youngest nephew was into Pokemon when he was 10 or so,
but he's 22 now, he did have a quick look, but couldn't remember much.
My eldest nephew was into Spellfire cards, I remember they seemed to be expensive
to buy, but not much more.
He knows nothing about any of the others.

Looks like I'll be sending out some PM's

With all trading cards, there will be a name and a number.

Which corresponds to its specific set.

Most sets are then broken down into Common, Rare, Super Rare & Ultra Rare or Common, Uncommon, Rare & Foils.

If you would like help with any specific card sets, please feel free to contact me.

If i can't help directly, i may be able to point you in the right direction.

    Hi goth
just a quick line to warn you about pokemon card and yu-gi-oh cards.
there are loads of fake cards out there as i have learn.
like you i got a big box of cards from a car boot (doc who, pokemon and yu-gi-oh cards) and decided to search the web for prices of cards founds some good sites for doctor who cards and found that some of them are selling for high prices sold some of these with no problems then looked at the Yu-Gi-Oh web site and found that i had some cards the were very high value listed them and sold them to people all over the world and everyone said the cards were fake!!!!
It's abit odd because there are so many dif things that tell if a card is fake or not and I am stil not to sure how to tell a fake and real one.
I had to refund all the ones i had sold most of the buyers were happy to return them and were in there way full of infomation (apart for one from the UK very rude and even threatened me ).
To be honest i think that there is that many of these cards about that no one now knows for sure whats a fake and whats a real one.
goth if you decide to sell the doctor who cards pm me with the price you want for them and will pos take them of your hands.
