The longer the title the less impact it will have on someone browsing. The reverse of that is the more keywords you can include the more likely it is to be picked up by searches. I hate to go against the tide but I find 55 characters quite sufficient.

It obviously depends on what you are listing.

My knitting patterns for instance would IDEALLY include the Brand, pattern number, gender, description of garment... any one of which could be included in a search.

I often run out of room in the title as well. If 70 characters were possible, I think that I would find that to be helpful. :-)
