Question World Coin Whatizit -- George V?, 1916

OK. I reached in the bag of world coins and pulled out another one that's a mystery to me.

This one looks like it might be British? Or some British colony or protectorate.

The obverse shows a bust, presumably of King George V, along with some latin text "Georgivs V D.G. Britt:OMN:Rex F. D. Ind: Imp:" I think I got the punctuation right. What's with all the colons?

It bears the date "1916" on the reverse, along with a big number "3" under a crown.

This coin appears to be toned silver, with ablum toning (darker at the edges).

    Obverse side:

    Reverse side:

Does anyone have any clues for me about this one?

This coin is a bit smaller than a US Dime. The photos show a ruler (scaled in inches) and a Roosevelt dime to allow everyone to see the size and scale of this coin. Weight is about 1.4 grams on my digital scale.

From what I can see it looks like UK old currency in the days of poinds, shillings and pence and looks like what we called the 'silver thruppence'. If it is one of those - its coinage value would have been 3d (three pence, but with the pence written as a 'd'). Hope that helps.

    Thanks,

It does indeed look like a silver thruppence as you call it. I never quite understood the "d" for pence. Seems ,umop ap!sdn, to me. Would make sense for Australians, but seems strange for Britts.

Definitely a silver threepenny piece or 'Silver Joey' in colloquial slang.
