I see you as one of the 'more sucessful' sellers here.
Having +163 (all from on eBid) - and yet you live in the USA... What's your secret?

    (and Thanks Florida)

Hi emporiumdays, not much I can say. Haven't had a sale in a while..I do need to work harder at it. My sales have been mostly the YDC Charity auctions I participated in, a few newbies looking for feedback [which I gave them great Fb but most didn't return it] and some really nice buyers here who are also sellers and who have since become friends. I'm sitting here hoping lots of new buyers and sellers will find their way here soon. Good luck to you...hope you have lots of sales...

    I agree that ebid should

    1 Show the bids
2 Show the watchers - even more important !
3 Not show the BIG RED crosses
4 Not show the number of views to buyers.

If it is true that they used to show bids and took it away, then it should be easy to bring back even for a 6 month trial

And I also like Emporiumdays suggestion about making the bids show as optional
It should be very easy programming wise as Steve says.

But i still think that auctions are no where near as popular as they used to be even on ebay. I think that an item has to be truly unusual or unique or very wanted to warrant running an auction.
I do have experience of this on our New Zealand auction site which has auctions and BIN.

Thankyou hopeful, - yes I also need to work harder at my listings...
(I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get your deserved feedback - that is disappointing).
I appreciate your sentiments and likewise wish you well. (I wish I knew your name...).

@Julie - Yes - re: that 'optional' setting .... I was meaning that the 'Seller' themselves could decide whether to turn the 'bids view' (or whatever u want to call it) ON for the buyers to see, or OFF to hide it from the buyers view. (Just wanted to clarify - incase others weren't clear).

    '0' = 'FALSE' (Don't Diplay)

so that it was simply 'selectable' (like a switch on/off)

Are there any Programmers around who could shed any light?

Um... That would be me again.

    It's almost that simple.

A quick check to see what the user's preferences are (show or don't show).
    An application of that preference:
If ShowIt = True Then Show The Column Else Don't Show The Column
A minor resize of the other columns if the bids column is hidden

My only hidden talent so far is the ability to turn money into less money. Although I can turn wine into water, but not sure if that counts.

My real job is actually: Software Developer/Systems Analyst/Database Administrator - but I'm seriously bored of IT and now trying to (slowly) get out of it as a full time job. So since summer last year I've been getting Pet Bazaar off the ground.

    Ahhhhhhhhhh.................................

My son has just started a tertiary course in IT. (I was/am tempted to do the same).
My son just seems to pick up everthing so so quickly - it's just second nature for him. - They took him into the course an age 14 (given an exemption from secondary school).

The only reason I'm hesitant to do it as well - is my age - by the time I finish the course I'll be getting rather close to my 'use by' date. The other thing that worries me is the rate of change of technology, and therefore the PRESSURE of 'keeping up'.

It wouldn't be impossible for me to do it, but I'm apprehensive I guess.

I wouldn't ever advise against doing an IT course, no matter what your age is.

What you do with it obviously depends on what you want to do. General IT if you fancy tinkering, doing support or selling PC's and accessories. But if you want to go beyond that specialising in a field is the way to go. That way, when the technology changes six months later you can ignore most if it and concentrate on your field of expertise.

Unfortunately, after doing it for 17 years I'm just getting a bit fed up being told that what I'm doing is wrong by someone who's experience consists of playing games on their PC.

A recent example is an HR Director who insisted that the IT department had deleted all of her files after doing an upgrade of MS Office. It turned out, after much finger pointing and threats of disciplinary action, that in actual fact she had no idea where her Word documents were saved and the only means she had of getting to them was the "Recent Files" list in Word which had been erased when the new version of office was installed.

Anyone who works in IT will tell you that the Dilbert cartoons written by Scott Adams really aren't fiction.

No NO.... NOT talking about an Option... duh, this is and should be a seen as an Auction Site.
With A Bid column to be SEEN on each and every page when scrolling Auctions.
There is no other way. Please get real and even pretend you know auctions.
