Question 1p auctions, the pros and cons ??

I would like the view of my fellow sellers on Ebid about this one.

Do you think sales rise if you list items at 1p and increase the postage accordingly?

I have probably around 700 books listed all under 99p and postage at cost.

It is easy to change the price of a 59p book to 1p and add 58p on to the postage.

I have preferred, up until now, to go for customer satisfaction with reasonable postage rates, but I could risk that if I get greater sales.

Any experience and wisdom on this?

I have only ever sold books on here and the bay.
I have always listed at the min start price I am happy with and postage/packing at cost.
This month I have sold 63 books out of 320 I had listed. Books are not my main area of selling though

I would realize, as a buyer, that you had just added the cost to the postage.....but I wouldn't know how much. From an eBidder point of view, it might appear that you are trying to pay lower fees to eBid.................overall, I would not think it's a great idea. However, your wine always sounded wonderful!!!
    Ta-Ta for now!

I would imagine that a fair percentage of buyers would realize that an item like a book is inherintly worth more than 1p.
Buyers would mostly realize that the postage cost has likely been 'padded' to ofset the cheap item price.
Personally, I think that postage charged at its real cost is best. I often get put off purchasing items if I perceive the postage charge as being too high......

Agree with HM, and I'd like to think buyers would recognize the difference between a 1 p auction with higher postage and a 99 p auction with lower shipping costs, maybe I'm wrong though. From a recent search of Feepay, (as a guest), I discovered many of my gems are lower priced than those of the "competition," so to speak, however I'm not offering "free" shipping as some on the other site are, (obviously the so-called "free" shipping is absorbed in the higher overall price of the item), and they appear to be making more sales than yours truly, sooooooooo, long story short, maybe it's not such a crazy idea after all.

Truly indecisive this morning, it must be the weather. Can't wait to see what others have to say about this.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

The only place I sell at 1p is the River and only because the postage rate is fixed and gives a profit on thin light books if you can buy them originally for under 20p.

Otherwise post is at cost for me.

Books are really slow for me!

Sometimes I price my really thin books at 99p P&P free.
They sell readily on the bay, but not on here. That could just be because noone wants them!
On the other hand it could be that P&P is not such a selling factor on Ebid.

I wouldn't buy from anyone where I saw that they had padded postage.
