Unless I've gotten it badly wrong, you only need to understand 4 of the columns.

keyword : This is the phrase that people are typing into Google
volume : This is the average number of times in a month that the phrase is entered into Google
competition : This is an indicator of the number of advertisers who are advertising using that search phrase
traffic : The percentage of people arriving on the site from google as a result of using that search phrase.


Ideally what you're looking for in your own SEO efforts are phrases where the volume field is high, and the competition field is low. Roughly translated, that means that lots of people are searching for the phrase, but the sellers haven't figured this out yet - leaving the door open for you to attract them.

The traffic field just allows you to see which search phrases are effective, eg: To take it to extremes, if one phrase attracts 99% of your visitors, and the remaining 1% arrive via 10 other phrases, then you can probably abandon the 10 and make sure that the 1 is used in all the right places.
