I've had a website for 2 years and had never heard of Google Trends till now !

So I suppose the only thing we could say (with any certainty) is that Alexa's Rise is reflecting more 'log-ons' to eBid, (but the 'log-ons' are not necessarily due to new visitors) ...

I'm afraid you can't even say that with certainty.

All you can say with certainty is that more people who are logging onto eBid now have the Alexa toolbar.

If, last week, 100 people logged onto eBid and 2 had the Alexa toolbar, and this week the same 100 logged on but 10 had the toolbar then you would get a rise in the ratings.

As for the Google trends comments. I've been running various website on and off for over ten years and only discovered trends about 6 months ago. It's not particularly well publicised unless your specifically looking for something like it. Only found it when looking at an adwords tutorial when setting up my latest site.

Yeah - I think we're saying the same thing really, just wording it differently.

A Rising Alexa can only be due to more logins (Alexa logins of course) and...
these extra 'logins' come from members who have added the toolbar anyway, hence not from new (non tool bar) visitors to the site.

Anyway.... All of this seems to indicate that Quantcast would yield more accurate resuts...

Don't forget everyone, that a very easy way you could help ebid is to download and install the Alexa tool bar.

Its very small and does not take up any computer power (if you have a newish machine and broadband)

Alexa has been going for years and is a reputable company.

It lets you know how ebid is progressing, and every other site you view as well.

As EmporiumDays chart shows, the lower the number the higher the ranking the website is.

Maybe Ebid should get Quantified.

It is worth noting that even E8ay has yet to 'Quantify' itself, so we have an oppotunity to get one over on the dark side.
