    Angry charity collection buckets....

I am wondering if anyone can offer advice or ideas....

My amdram group are doing several open air performances at community/ local festivals this summer and have permission from the organisers of the venues to have our own collection buckets to raise funds for the group. Now these need to be formal "collection buckets" rather than a load of normal kitchen buckets because of having them sealed during the collection with the special lids.

I have looked around online and these buckets seem incredibly expensive, and we are only looking for three after all. I would look at asking other bigger local charities and non-profit groups who fundraise, if we could borrow some, except we would need them from the start of April through to the end of August... which is a bit longer than a week or two and I feel would be rather cheeky to ask for that long.

I saw some round topped buckets in a hardware shop today and I know where you can buy replacement lids for those charity-buckets, I dont know if thats one way around it (though a lot of time wasted if it isnt) or if anyone has some - used is fine, we can re-label - that they would sell to us, cheap, on ebid here... or if they have been in a similar position and have found a way around the issue...?

Our RNLI buckets don't seal. They just have funnel-shaped inserts that sit at the top to direct the money into the bucket, and stop them from being completely open to passing strangers sticking their hands in! I would think that something similar could be achieved with any lidded plastic bucket, by turning the lid upside-down and taking to with with a hacksaw!

ok, that makes sense. We understood it as a legal requirement that we needed these other ones, thats all...

It might be a contractual requirement of the people letting you collect, but if it's a legal requirement nobody's told me... and I think I won't ask, just in case. ;o)

Check with The Salvation Army or other such group. They fundraise with the kettles regularly and probably have large numbers of kettles. I used to direct an HIV/AIDS Service Organization & The Salvation Army regularly supported our community activities. Or some other group that operates on their level.

I have seen other organized fund raising efforts that do not use the enclosed collection buckets. Have never seen them stopped in their fund raising efforts. The enclosed buckets are safer, and more professional looking. Probably the best way to go. You could cover their buckets (kettles) with something that identifies your group.

Charnwood have the buckets for £5 + vat.
It may be easier to "bite the bullet" and invest for future use as well.
    Just my thoughts...........
Otherwise you could end up spending even more money on phone calls, petrol etc. & that's without your time factored in too.
