Thread: Are Shipping Costs Applied For Each Number Of Items Purchased Under Same Listing?

  1. #1

Default Are Shipping Costs Applied For Each Number Of Items Purchased Under Same Listing?

When setting up a listing to sell, if you select a flat shipping of, for example $3.00, is that applied only once or to each number of items purchased in the same listing? There didn't seem to be an option to choose which between the two. Anyone know if there is? Thanks.

All shipping costs are held per item and any discounting has to be done manually by the seller at time of invoice.

I have added a Notice to try to stop a customer paying for multiple items before they request a Combined Invoice.

Recently when listing something for which I have a quantity of two units, I was very pleasantly surprised to see there is a way to invoke less shipping for second (or third, fourth, etc. if available) items, but it's using CALCULATED shipping instead of FLAT.

I have two plastic cakeboxes of 50 blank DVDs. They are of course rather heavy. Each box without packaging weighs around two pounds. I calculated a cardboard shipping box would add 8 ounces to the total weight. So if a person wants to order only one box of DVDs, total shipping weight will be 2 pounds 8 ounces. If the person wants to order two cakeboxes of DVDs, shipping weight would be 4 pounds 8 ounces, rather than 5 pounds, since I'd be sending the DVDs in the same cardboard shipping box.

When setting up the listing, I had the opportunity to select

I can put more than one item in the package and each extra will add

in Section Two of the listing form, both domestic and international shipping. I input "2 pounds" as the additional weight, since that's what each cakebox of DVDs weighs. Nobody's ordered my DVDs yet but I'm confident this will provide a helpful and automatically "discounted" shipping charge.

    Very interesting

    I have run a test.

Please look at the four results below :-

It appears to work fine for USA Zip Codes but not for the UK.

OH! I believe the problem might be because any package over 4 pounds weight must go from the US as Priority Mail International rather than First Class. I will examine the listing and see if I've failed to list Priority Mail Int'l as a choice.

    edit: Priority Mail now added

second edit: I tested the calculations. They appear to work perfectly for shipping either one or two cakeboxes to the UK. If sending two, First Class International becomes unavailable since the weight is over four pounds. Regardless of the exorbitant $41+ shipping charge, the listing seems to perform like clockwork!

    charge.
    Yes it seems fine BUT

I have just rechecked and can not locate the option to add extra items or weight in Section Two of the UK Listing Form.

Perhaps its only available to the USA site.

This is becoming a bit of a tantalizing problem since it appears to be on the EDGE of being solved.

Have you tried starting a new listing rather than editing an existing one? I don't want to be obnoxious but could it be a need for clearing your browser cache?

Just cleared my Firefox cache, and this is what I see when starting a brand new listing.

That looks like a flat rate shipping setup. And it IS for a multiple-item listing, right?
