    Default question about fur

I have a vague recollection that something like this has been asked before. I have some vintage fur gloves I want to sell. Don't know what fur it is but it's the real thing. I am wondering if that is covered by 'pelt' and as such not allowed on ebid. Thought I ask here first before bothering the bosses

The only people that can interpret eBid's rules for you is eBid themselves. So you are best asking them if you are unsure about anything they state.

I would have thought there was not an issue with what you want to sell. I think skins and pelts in the banned items list refers to unprocessed items and not clothing. eBid may disagree with that interpretation though.

That's where language comes in. I have never been quite sure what the difference between pelt and fur is. I shall hunt for the dictionary...

I would agree with Mel on this. The pelt would be the raw skin rather than something fashioned into clothing.
The only problem you might have is finding a buyer in this day of animal rights, political correctness etc.

    Pretty lame to ban pelts

Are they really any different than a leather belt or wallet?

Generally. leather is a bi-product of slaughter for food whereas a lot of the fur products in the fashion world are from animals killed solely to make clothes.

None of the charity shops in town sell fur coats etc and won't accept them as donations.

I'm not sure on what the rules are re fur items - but if they're vintage fur gloves that were in existance (sp) before any anti-fur protests & rulings etc wouldn't the vintage gloves bit soften the fur bit?

I'm in the same boat though as I've got a couple of skins that came into being in the days of the 'great white hunter' (I use those words loosely) when it was classed as being fashionable to go on African Safari hunts. I can't remember how I had them, can't sell them, & can't display them - so I've got them folded in a box in a cupboard.

I hope you find someway to list them. What colour are they? It may give an idea as to what fur it is - although some furs were dyed so we would only be guessing.

I agree with astral, only eBid can answer this one. I had a question some weeks back about selling shark teeth and wrote support, they were most helpful, (and, yes, shark teeth are allowed on eBid, not sure about the fur, although I can't think why it would be a problem as long as the coat's original owner is no longer wearing it).

Best wishes for many sales to all,

It is always a good idea to run those questions by support. I sent a question to them concerning pre-banned ivory netsukes, that had receipt proof from a reputable auction gallery. Support stated not allowable due to USA restrictions. Restrictions probably selling internationally, because pre-ban status sales is legal in USA.

Thank you all for your replies. As to what kind of fur it is I expect it'll be rabbit. Nice and warm they are, too. If they were a bit bigger, I'd wear them myself in this weather. And they are definitely not younger than 1960's
