Default Not in the news, but some good News !

I have just noticed that ebid's Alexa rating has just gone up to 11,984.

It has been in the 12,000's for a long time and was down to 14,000 at one stage this year.

So to be going up is good news.

Alexa is a website ratings company (there are two others)
It records the number of hits websites get and ranks them.
    Facebook is 2
    Youtube is 3
    the river is 15
    feebay is 21
    The bbc is 46
    the ranch is about 6,000
    ebid is now 11,984
    my own website is 1,000,000

Alexa gets its its figures from its members (I am one). You install a small toolbar at the bottom right of your screen and it records all of your visits. It is quite neat as every time you visit a site you can see their Alexa number. If it is 10,000,000 you know they are not very popular.

You can also visit their website and look up any site you wish.

moving up in ranking is always nice to hear but the disparity shown is yet again confirmation of the HUGE amount of effort needed by both eBid and members to gain greater market share, particularly in the US sector.

What about the lack of popularity of Alexa in the UK? I don't know anybody amongst my personal friends (many of whom are extremely geeky as you might expect. :-)) who uses it.

Size: 1.3 KB ...I've actually posted about this before and how unless a user has the Alexa toolbar then unique visitor traffic numbers are less than accurate. Like you, I don't know any of my friends who use the toolbar either (of course I only have 4 friends counting myself)

There are two other similar services to Alexa.

Anyone who wants one can get a free Alexa toolbar (as I said it is very interesting to see how various website rate)

So how do European or UK advertising agencies know which site to advertise on ?

I know that its only a guide at best, but it is the trends that matter to me.

I'd not heard of this either. Just a thought tho-- if more ebidders sign up for the free toolbar and keep visiting ebid will the rating go up even more? Seems logical especially as it is free- Or am I missing something? Maybe it dosen't work like that- more info please!!

Juliebabe do you have a link for this Alexa? Could we on ebid use it pump up ebids rating?

    Thanks, Alan
Please have a look at my shops, you may find something you like!! Please note the old embroidery transfers have been transferred to collectables and everything else.
