Thread: ebay v ebid comparison

  1. #1

Thumbs up ebay v ebid comparison

Have you noticed and read the very interesting comparison article at the top left hand corner of the home page, which also shows at the top of your store home page, but not this forum. Very encouraging results.

Read it but disagree with the conclusion, IMHO eBid FAR outstrips Feebay in every possible area, no comparisons...

    Best wishes,

Yes imho ebid is far better set up than feebay and has much fairer policies
We just need 5 million listings and ten times as many members as we have.

We also need to hope that, if we get those 5 million listings and lots more members, that eBid won't go the same way as eBay. eBay was a lot fairer with their fees when they were smaller and "on the rise", but once they noticed they had very little competition, and that the site was growing exponentially, THAT'S when they realized they could pretty much do whatever they wanted with the fees, and people really had no viable alternatives.

Smaller companies are always fairer, mainly because they know they have to be. It's when they start getting huge that they start being less appreciative of their users, and start viewing them solely as objects that earn them money, so be careful what all of you are wishing for.

Not that I think it WILL happen, but it's something that COULD.

That is an odd one, as it is as if they wrote the ebay review section a few years ago on selling on ebay and the stars they give do not seem to correlate to what they are saying

It is basically an ebay promo thing, so I am wondering why ebid added it?

When talking about ebay they say things like "has the largest and easiest to use online help and support center."

Yeah right gloss over the cracks why don't you.

Possibly because 99.99% of people will just see the headline and never both to check the text?

Don't forget, Ebay is still paying for some real howlers it made in the world of business. Who can forget the Skype fiasco?, they paid well over the odds for something that has, by design, a reducing income stream. They tried to sell it for what they paid for it, but having found a buyer, 2 Swiss programers popped-up claiming that a large part of the main code belonged to them, and they wanted their share of the sales price. The ensuing legal wrangling cost feebay $7m a day in lost interest and lawyers fees. Strangley-enough it was about the same time they then upped the fvf to 10% for the first £10, followed by limiting free listings to 100 per user per month.

Ebid on the other hand is quite happy to slowly increase its user base without risking its financial stability (although it did miss the chance to snap-up 'Tazbar' and it's 100,000 users)
All good things come to those who wait, and wait, and wait.....
