Gazza, you are asking for a huge amount of work when masses has already been done on this thread. If you just added the list of thematics as given at the top of the thread you would be doing well.

We could then ask for tweaks.

For the general stamp cats (as opposed to thematics), I will do the job, shadowing SG, but I just won't do it unpaid. It is many hours of work.

as i wrote back in June 2012 the updating of the commmonwealth stamp categories and sub-categories is nothing short of fantastic, whoever provided you with the breakdown did a fantastic job. Well done.

can you please now do the same categories overhaul for thematics, using as a minimum the listing wellset provided over 18 months ago amd my original listing of over 2 years !

you will be aware that the number of stamp listings has risen dramatically in the past few days thanks to the change in fees by the d* website, this website particularly specialised in thematic stamp listings

therefore to make ebid even more attractive and attract even more listings i strongly urge you to address the thematic stamp categories as a matter of urgency.

I have to agree with you,

however at the moment Gazza "might" be working on trying to set up a lister that will accept "the site you mentioned" CSV files. As you might know the lister there is a strange beast

This thread began October 2010. Almost two years have passed since the original request to provide proper categories and sub categories for stamp sellers. To date, nothing has been done.

Buyers who stumble into this site, searching for a selection of certain categories must be amazed at what is presented to them. There is only a little over 200,000 stamps listed here with poor categorization, and almost equal variety.

Perhaps eBid should hire someone, even temporarily, to review the stamp categories at eBay, DelCampe, and BidStart, so as to provide a proper environment to attract those dealers who would leave the larger sites, if eBid was properly categorized.

Two years is much too long to wait for revisions and additions to the stamp categories.

Gary/Mark any idea when you might update the thematic category listings? it really needs doing urgently.

As i wrote previously whoever did the task on the commonwealth categories needs a big heads up as they did a fantastic job.

There were varying versions of a final list. If a final list can be placed here we will get these added today.

Its a bit harsh wanting a list immediately when i have been asking for nearly 2 years :-) I can't promise that the list below will be acceptable to all but it would be a bl**dy good start under the thematic heading. however, there are other changes required under africa and elsewhere which i am not competent to comment on as i dont have the expertise but as has been posted elsewhere you couldn't do much wose than "ripping" the categories from the delcamp* site. hope that helps

Understand the long wait, was really just asking for a copy and paste of one of the 3 or 4 versions of the list that were added towards the beginning of the thread.

We'll get to work on adding these as soon as we can, we'll also add more others that people have mentioned are missing such as Africa subcats.

many thanks for the substantial updates to the stamp categories, particularly the thematic sub-categories. cant really comment on some of the others as i know nothing about them.

However, if i have one immediate criticism it is the use of united kingdom for great britain,

i doubt there are many collectors of great britain stamps who would use the expression united kingdom, that is a very european expression and if you could i would revert back to using great britain asap before you get a wave of complaints, otherwise a job well done,

Hi Barrie, reverted back.

We've worked on Thematics, Asia, Africa, Europe and started work on differentiating old british empire territories from their counterparts today.
