Thread: advice on new online store

1. #1

Default advice on new online store

I have started to build another shop selling made to measure blinds and before i go any further of adding more fabric and colours etc, please can you all have a look and see if you can understand the concept of the store.

THe main trouble i am havng is getting the actual colours from the swatches on to disk. I have tried both by scanner and camera in which both dont do the colour justice

any tips would be great

Hi Adrian,
I love your 'About' page - the picture made me smile
Your blind listings are very comprehensive and well thought out. Most professional.
HOWEVER..... sorry.....your colours are very confusing. For instance, your beige blind shows a primrose 'swatch' which says the colour is not taken from the sample. I know if I am choosing a blind on-line, I would want to be sure of the colour I was getting. Maybe the offer of a colour swatch would be a good idea?
Good luck with the sales

I think if I was buying I'd just want a nice big picture of the style/design of the blinds, and swatch picture showing me the colour as accurately as possible. Can you maybe give Dulux colour names or Pantone numbers or something to confirm the colour so that different monitor casts don't matter?

normally i go to peoples houses and take folders with me

with the 1st picture i tried to get the colour as close as poss using the colour palette on the computer - the scanner and camera not doing colours justice

i can ask the supplier to forward me off cuts - the sample pack i carry costs about £50 per folder so there fore cant cut from it.

i dont know if you saw the link to an online book - this wasprofessionally done but fabrics are more expensive and would be more complicated to list as they are all different price bands and based on width and drop

thats why i only listed a few just in case lol

what i am going to try and do is save images from online folder (get colour as close as i can) and do same as what ive attached

had an idea
i could pass them to a similar sample on the book

HI Adrian, sorry we can't see the blinds, not offered to US. Color is difficult to reproduce. Often discribing it helps too. Try using various lights, I use a opti lamp, which is more true color than other light bulbs, so colors are close to nature. Even with that often yellows show up "off" and need lots of adjustment. Since color is an important aspect, it has to be right or you lose the sale.

In US one of the big issues with blinds is the unsafe cords, cause injury in kids, and the unsafe amounts of lead and other chemicals in them. Some of the cheaper plastics from China have been banned. Might be nice to reassure buyers your products are safe too..

Good luck with your new store, nice we are getting such a great assortment of products now!

Maybe a bit early in the day for me but I couldn't work out what I would be paying for - too many 'up to' sizings. Seems like I would pay the same price for 1 square meter of blind as for 10 square meters of blind.

Colours you are on a loser on. Even if you get then perfect on your monitor there is nothing to say they will look the same on someone else's.

I agree. When looking at any website the colours always appear different depending whether I am using my desktop, lappie or phone.
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else

the basis of the different sizes - with this fabric price is determined my width only (other fabrics price is based on width and drop) so if you ordered a blind from 0mm to 600mm width it would be £35 and from 601mm to 1200mm it would be £45 if you get my drift

ive asked supplier for off cuts of samples but what im gonna do is compare up to dulux paint sample card (however personally i find choosing paint from these - the paint appears a different shade on the wall!!!)

oh i sold my second item on here today and they actually paying bidder - was a pair of ladies shoes

I only looked at the pics, I didn't read the text, but the pics certainly look better than the first time I had a nosey.
