    Default A Gold(ish) type question

Okay, somebody is going to have to put me out of my misery.
I've got an old bracelet inset with amethyst type stones. Now it's not gold but it does look like gold and there is a name for the metal that I cannot, for the life of me, remember.

Anybody ready to jump in with suggestions (I'll know it when I hear it!)

Wow, I did hear of that one before. But what an odd name. Wonder what it means?

I think it derives from the man who invented it, and then it kept getting passed off as real gold on unsuspecting buyers (back centuries ago)
It's one of those words that I'm always forgetting!

    Default Pinchbeck is . . .

Pinchbeck is an alloy made of zinc and copper. It is used as imitation gold.

Other names are Tombac, Prince's metal and Mosaic Gold.

"Pinchbeck" is named after an English Watchmaker.

    It does look like Goldfish!

Actually I didn't know the secret died with him - you can see how folk would be fooled into thinking it's real gold though.
