No, it isn't an excellent idea. There have been discussions about this in the past on other threads. No one has to use this option, so please leave it alone for those of us who need it.

We have approximately 2,200 listings that will expire and have to be relisted. This is a chore every morning.

We have around 3,000 listings that are run until sold. If we have to relist those, it won't happen. First because we would have to change every single one of them. This would simply take too much time for very low-priced items. We have sold a few, and they do attract buyers to eBid, but it wouldn't be worth the work to relist them all.

We are not the only store that uses this. There is a seller here with over 10,000 items, all run-until-sold, and he IS active.

The answer is not to ban the RTS format, it is to remove the runaway listers

If they can't be bothered to log in at least biweekly there should be a line through their ID

This is a much more sensible solution. ESPECIALLY because eBid has now hidden away the "Last Seen" date in a place where no new buyer will ever find it.

Whether it's a time limit on listings, or a time limit on logging in, something needs to be done to stop people dumping listings and disappearing.
I looked at one on the US site the other day with a few thousand listings, that hadn't logged in since Jan 2009. Not much hope of them returning is there.
Run til sold is fine if everybody looks after their listings. Sadly though, not everybody does.

originally I was in the Get rid of RUN TILL SOLD camp - But after reading through the replies can see that some sellers do really rely on it. But, i do agree that somethgn should be put in place, and that the regular Log In and a very easy to see date of last visit would work well.

For those who aren't fussy about filtering what I sell - Take a look at ALL my stuff above. - But for more specific listings, take a peek in the stores below.

TOY-PALLOI - For all sorts of traditional playthings!

THE PAPERBOYS PLEASURE - For Books & Magazines

    OUT ON THE FLOOR - For Records - (mainly 1950's - 60's)

    VIEWPOINT - Photographic Equipment

THE SCRAPYARD - Spare parts for old cars and bikes
