Thread: Computer help please

  1. #1

    Angry Computer help please

I let my grandson use the computer earlier, and I now have a visual display problem. I am viewing a tiny screen which I cannot change.

I have been through the Appearance, Screen Resolution and Personalisation section. I tried changing the resolution and I ended up with large icons in my tool bar, which prior to this setback were okay, I have reset them back as they were. It is the screen view I need to tackle.

My next step was to restore the settings back to yesterday's date, but yesterday Microsoft did a critical update. Now if I were to go back to beyond this critical update, which I assume will wipe if out, will it reset itself after the system restore? I do receive automatic updates.

The computer was new after Xmas and I am using Windows 7 IE7.

I found a few posts on a website I frequent which some folks had the same problem,1 even said after an update from microsoft her computer came back with a tiny screen, and as you they tried the resolution and everything but nothing worked.
There are a few tips on there that may be of use as the only thing I could think of would, seeing as how you tried the resolution to no avail than perhaps the video card is not displaying the proper resolution and needs to be changed

I copied and pasted the link, I hope you find your answer. You will probably have to copy and paste it as well and it should bring you right into the thread on the problem.

    Good luck

    Hi Pink Panther,

I mentioned system restore in my question. I want to go ahead with that, but yesterday Microsoft installed a critical update, I have automatic updates checked. Now when I system restore I will go back to yesterday and that will probably wipe out the update, but will this automatically reinstall or cause any problems?

You don't say what version you are running XP, Vista or Windows 7

Laura, thanks for your message and input on this problem. I have now done a system restore back to before the Microsoft update which appears to have caused the problem - there were lots of people on the forum link that you sent me who all had the same problem after the Microsoft update.

Everything is back to 'normal' now.
