I list items so that peeps can nick ticks to their hearts content on them, but they're supposed to leave my ticks alone - what did you think you were doing???

I think you're doing something wrong. That was the point I tried to make before, but I was too cryptic, sorry.

Depending on your browser and settings, you might find that you *can't* copy and paste forum messages just by highlighting them as displayed. To do mine I have to go into the message I want to copy in edit, and grab all the BB codes as well as the text. Looks like you're the same. The clue is: when you are editing a message do you see it formatted, or do you see the codes? If, like me, you see the codes then you want to use my "via edit" technique.
