Thread: problems with shipping calculator

Gazza, I had to delete second listing. It is now: http://us.ebid.net/for-sale/test-lis...2-26476067.htm

I think the problem lies with the difference in ebid's listing option of regular versus large package. If we use large package [per USPS website's definition] priority comes out correct and parcel is incorrect. If we use regular package [which the USPS website considers this large package] the parcel comes out correct but priority does not.

Looking at your dimensions 24 + a girth of 44 = 68 which is within the 84 inch limit we set for regular packages, so regular is the correct choice here.

Gazza, Regular is only correct if you use parcel. If you wish to offer priority it then falls under USPS dimensional rate which makes it a large package. That is why you can not offer parcel and priority together on a listing with ebid's shipping calculator.

Gazza, I have just added priority to second test listing. As you can see it comes up as $17.65 priority which is not correct. This is where the dimensional rate comes in for priority mail and is why I can not offer both options on the same listing.

If I use large package, the priority is correct but parcel is not [1st test listing].

If I use regular package, the parcel is correct but priority is not [2nd test listing].

FYI, Any priority package that exceeds any dimension over 12" [see http://postcalc.usps.gov/] falls under the dimensional rate. I know, it's confusing. Parcel packages don't - to my knowledge. That is why we must submit L x W x H to get priority package mail rates if package size is over 12 x 12 x 12. The package I used as an example exceeds that 12" rule so it makes my package large if shipping priority.

There are also additional charges if a package exceeds 108", etc.
There are also balloon rates, etc. for very large packages.
You can find them on this page: http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-...ase-prices.htm

Ebid's shipping calculator apparently is not set up for those instances. Thankfully I do not have many packages that fall in those categories.

    Hope this helps.

We're looking into sending dimensions to USPS for Parcel Post.. at the moment they aren't "required" but we will try sending them anyway to see if help.

The problem is with the results USPS are sending us back when we request the price. They are sending back a price that doesnt reflect the price they show on their own website.

    We've contacted them about this.
