You seemed to get something to show! If you want to add a proper signature, rather than have to put the banner in manually each time, have a read here: http://www.bykimbo.com/ebid/help/addingsig.htm

The directory doesn't use banners, so no problem there anyway.

I don't seem to have a 'new topic' button on my forum page for when I want to post a question. On the Q&A page it says - 'you may need permission' so who do I go to for this permisssion, any ideas?

If you're already in a thread, that button won't be visible, just "post a reply" or similar. You have to sit in the forum, rather than a thread, in order to post a new topic. You can get there via the links describing where you are (at the top), amongst other routes.
