Wooden knitting needles

Anyone know of where I can buy wooden knitting needles?

Or if anyone makes these?

I have seen them in some knitting shops, but they are bamboo, not very sturdy. The only others I have found were at thrift stores.

KnitPro makes wooden ones, but only in the larger sizes. Apparently the wood splinters if too thin so they make their smaller needles out of steel.

I'm waiting for a delivery from them. In the meantime I have bamboo needles. I haven't had any problem with these breaking but they can bend.

Same here with the bamboo ones. They tend to bend and stay bent. Especially when its humid.

I did buy some knit pro ones from the local craft shop.

But had to take them back as the wood did split.

I loved them, but they just didn't work for me.

Perhaps they were just a faulty batch.

I have a few pairs of wooden ones, lots of metal ones, and some bamboo ones.

I get on best with the wooden ones. But they are old ones, I've had for years.

Was just wondering if someone who did wood work, could make any.

Or would that work out too expensive?

Yes, everyone has a preference. I love the Boye Balene plastic needles, they have very curvy points, are flexible, and feel warm. Come in super big sizes too.

For new ones US makers Boye and Susan Bates both make wooden needles in larger sizes. Probably pine or something. I agree, newer ones do splinter and break, I broke so many doublepoints knitting baby hats at auctions. Might have been the excitement?

I always go thrift stores for the 1940s ones, they are hardwood and very nice. If they are 60+ years old and have not cracked, they ain't going to!

Making them would not be hard, some smaller companies do but they are very expensive. black walnut, maple etc. and $40+ a pair (I can just see Jaime running away with one of those in his mouth)! Look in new knitting magazines, you will see the various ads for different brands, find one you like and look for it on ebid of course.

I bought another pair this morning, and these are fine. I really love using them.
