Thread: Scanner or camera for cheap coins?

I tried both, and found the pictures with my camera were much clearer. Even those are not always perfect, coins are tough to do.

If he does decide to go with the scanner, Kimbo's suggestion works well. Put four at a time on the scanner, then use a photo editor to cut them out individually. That works well for stamps, should for coins too. They have to be reduced before they're loaded to eBid anyway, so it doesn't take me any more time to prepare them after they're scanned, and it cuts down the scanning time.

    It depends Sarah.

I used to photograph all my postcards. When my camera broke I was forced to scan them. I still think that photographs used to show up defects better then the scanner does; but having said that I can scan up to 4 cards at the time, which is faster.

I think he "should play it by ear" and see what gives him the best quality images - it's his time after all!!

I'm lazy I'd use the scanner.
It takes too long to get a sharp picture at that distance and at my age.
